James R. Carey

A longtime Chicago attorney, James R. Carey practices with Levin Schreder & Carey, Ltd., in Oak Park, Illinois. His work with the trust and estate dispute practice encompasses guardianship and trust issues, as well as the management of fiduciary risk. James R. Carey is experienced in resolving controversies related to estate and gift taxes, and has handled diverse litigation cases. As an attorney, he seeks solutions through mediation wherever possible and also guides appellate actions.

Mr. Carey maintains an active presence in the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law section of the American Bar Association (ABA). He is the ABA’s Litigation, Ethics and Malpractice Group chair and coordinates with the Dispute Resolution Section. He has presented widely on fiduciary topics such as “Trust & Estate Law: Emotional and Financial Costs of a Poorly Planned Estate” and “Perspective Settler Intent: Who Cares Anymore?”

Mr. Carey holds a BA from Marquette University in Milwaukee and completed his JD at the Loyola University School of Law. During his time in law school, he served as articles editor with the institution’s Business Law Journal.
